When I (Shelly) look back at where my life had taken me over the course of the previous years, I wondered if God had somehow made a mistake and thought I was stronger than I really was. In 2006, after the tragic death of my spouse and the birth of our son two weeks later (who joined his three older sisters, ages 2 1/2, 5 and 7) my happy Catholic life had seemingly come to a screeching halt. Those years were tough emotionally, spiritually and physically and the only thing that kept me going was a whole lot of prayer, help from family and friends and chats with my dear friend and Pastor. It was this Pastor who suggested I first join Ave Maria Singles and I thought he was off his rocker! After he "gently" mentioned it several times, I emailed Ave Maria to see if I could get the Single Mom discount. After I was accepted at a reduced rate, I poured over my profile, trying to answer very personal and in depth questions in my spare time. I was not convinced that this was going to work, nor was I sure I was ready for it to work!

After many years of being a member, I was beginning to get discouraged and began to wonder if the Lord had anyone set apart for me to marry. I had contacted, corresponded and even met face to face many interesting women from this website, but the relationships ended when I or the woman knew the Lord was not calling us to marry each other. One benefit of this site is that I was able to work in the Lord's time and not feel time pressure to meet my spouse due to monthly and/or yearly fees.
